Reader Reviews:

"Jan of Cleveland is a brilliant, yet comical time traveling young woman. The names and backgrounds of the characters were well researched to show the history of the Medevil times. This was a fun read. Looking forward to more Adventures with Jan of Cleveland."

~ Donya (January 12, 2012)

"Good read. Jan's well-researched time travel sparks unrest in medieval England as she takes the reader on a journey into the age of plague and palaces. I found it well done and look forward to more journeys with Jan."

~ Elizabeth K. Davenport, George Wahr Publishing Co.

Book Description:

Can time travel be realistic, sexy and funny?

Find out what happens to a female Connecticut Yankee when she settles in the Middle Ages with a man she met in a history book! From infancy, her two Psych Professor parents raised Doctor Janice Atwood to a time traveler and a Medieval legend.

One late Spring evening in 1330, Simon Peter Fortescue, the Singing Barber of London ,and his bright young son Ethelred, discretely stole away to visit a Gypsy and reap their fortunes from her crystal ball. The Gypsy saw a tall, oddly dressed female surgeon from a land called 'Ohio' who would fall from the sky into Ethelred's life when he became a man.

Not your typical 'boy meets girl' story, but a playful one full of love, laughter, curve balls and close calls. Note: to anyone who bought the 2000 paperback version of this book, it has been 80% rewritten. Enjoy.

Excerpt:

(Intro): London, late May, 1330. Simon Peter Fortescue, the Fabled Singing Barber of London and his 10 year-old son, Ethelred have stolen away to have the Medieval equivalent to a psychic reading.

A Gypsy Fortuneteller sat at a table covered by a tablecloth with the ever present crystal ball. She wore a turban, gold hoop earrings and a shawl over her dress. Simon Peter and Ethelred seated themselves at the table.

“My son is curious about everything and anything. He is keen to meet a Gypsy and have his fortune told. I must confess, I wish to see my future, as well.”

“I gaze into the crystal, the pictures of thy lives, they will manifest. I know not which future will appear first.”

...“The son, he has an extremely exciting life ahead of him. He shall revolutionize surgery marry a woman from a land called ‘Ohio’.”

“Is it in Europe? I have never heard of this place.”

“In the New World. Far South of Vineland.”

“The place the Vikings discovered.”

“She, too, is a surgeon. Everything she doth is new and untried. Nearly everything she bringeth has not yet been thought of. She is a learned woman, young, very clean and oddly dressed.”

“How, pray tell, will I meet this maid?”

The Gypsy made a sweeping gesture with her hand. “In a pile of books, she will fall from the sky!”
“Good heavens!” Simon Peter remarked. “Just as in the fairy tales.”

About the Authors:

Jan of Cleveland has been like an archeological dig. The first layer came to the surface in a collaboration with LC VanSavage, a ghost writer, poetess, and New England newspaper columnist who helped Mrs. McKeown to make the transition from script writing to print. LC wrote three chapters in this e-book.

In 1999, Liz whose name was Kingsbury, self-published this book with good reviews and moderate success, but little money. In addition to the Time Travel Comedy, Liz had two radio skits and one radio play produced on KFAI Radio in Minneapolis, MN in the mid 1990s. She also had a 10 minute play entitled “End of the World?” produced at the (Minneapolis) Playwright's Center in the Spring of 2000.
